The Garden in February

Despite the dreary grey weather, the gardeners I have spoken to recently are cheerfully using this time of year to plan and thumb through all those seed catalogues. After a little walk around with a short friend, I am pleased to report that a few green shoots are bravely popping up in the Tahsis Community Garden! Specifically the schoolkids' garlic and flower bulbs, planted last fall! It's a good sign!

The Table Top Beds move to the Garden

Thank you to all the volunteer teens and adults who helped move the table top beds (especially Bill and his trailer!) to the garden site. They look wonderful! Photos by Kim

what a productive day!

"To be a gardener, you have to be an optimist" said Sandy today, while giving a lesson on starting seeds, and it was clear we have a large group of optimistic gardeners here in Tahsis. Over a dozen people were in the shop today finishing 10 beautiful sturdy tabletop beds. After that job, there was a communal lunch, and some people went home and others joined us for a very informative lesson on starting plants from seed. It's such a positive experience, to be learning and sharing information with each other as we plan for an exciting spring and summer.
Thank you everyone who was involved today, your hard work and optimism are priceless.

From our coordinator:
A Huge Thank you!! to everyone that came out and helped build table top garden beds for our community members that need the extra height in order to be active gardeners. It says a lot about what a great group of people we have involved in the Community Garden.

I hope you are a lot wiser nowafter Sandra's presentation on "Starting from Seed". I know I sure learned a lot, and what a great way to recycle those plastic bottles and plastic bags. Who knew we had so many knowledgeable people living in our community!

The shelving is here for the green house:) it will be up just in time. Now is the time to be thinking about your seed purchases. Don't forget to use that handy planting chart. Thanks again everyone.

Table Top Bed Construction

A small group gathered for a couple of nights to work on the prototype for our table top gardening beds. They are beautiful, durable and perfect for people with reduced flexability. We have the supplies to make 10 of these. Can't wait to see them in the garden!
