PURPLE PEAS PLEASE

Terry is growing 'drying' peas for his family.  The pods (and the flowers) are just lovely.

The Composters

A HUGE thank you to Master Gardener Terry for putting in volunteer time to reconfigure the composters. Terry has added a third bin and shifted them around for a more efficient system.  It's as easy as 1-2-3.

  1. Please put garden waste into the first bin (on the left), this is for our 'green' material.  Please add only to the first bin - Terry has made it easy and pretty much fool proof.
  2. When it is full, the materials will be moved to the middle bin to 'cook'.
  3. Finished compost will go into the bin on the far right.

Remember that NO buttercups, dock or other noxious weeds are to be placed in the garden composters.  Ditto for meat/fish as we don't want to attract animals.

Work Party & Bricks

There will be a work party this Saturday May 28 at the garden starting at 11 AM.  Please make your best effort to put in some volunteer time - the garden as a whole needs to be maintained by all members.  Every little bit helps.

Also, plans are starting to come together for our pizza oven.  If anyone in the community has any bricks kicking around, we are looking for donations - anything from 3 to 300 bricks greatly appreciated.   Who doesn't like pizza?

Planting Progressing

On Sunday, May 15th, garden members met up at the garden to plant and socialize.  The day was overcast and a little cool but provided some relief from the very hot weather we have recently had.  A few seeds went in, along with veggie starts, compost and faith.  We enjoyed a perfect little potluck dinner party under the 'tent' and raised a glass to successful gardening in 2016.   I forgot to take pictures, but went over today to admire the garden and everyone's work.

Fern & Sheila have a luscious layer of soil in now, just waiting to embrace some seeds.

Our strawberry 'field' - lots of berries coming.

The herb garden is growing strong.

Juanita's spuds are happy in their snug corner of straw.

Spaghetti Squash protected from those pesky crows.

The bunches of chives throughout the garden are so pretty.

The bees are all over the kale flowers.

Things are heating up in the greenhouse (around 93.5 degrees) and the tomatoes are lovin it.

Thank you to the anonymous gardener who weed whacked all around the beds!  And to Juanita who top-dressed the rose garden with mulch.  Members make our community garden great.

Sarah's Tomatoes

Just a reminder. Sarah Fowler left tomato seedlings in the greenhouse for everyone's use. Feel free to take many on Sunday at the planting party.

Mason Bee Water Fountain

You'll see this plate on the table under the holly tree. I read somewhere it is difficult for bees to drink from large containers of water. They need something to sit on. Like marbles. Feel free to top it up as you go by.
