whew!

It was a work day in the Tahsis Community Garden today. Several of us got together and worked on the shed and burned some of our brush pile. Fire roasted hot dogs with homemade saurkraut for lunch with hot chocolate kept us warm. We worked through the snow and almost finished by nightfall.

Tomorrow with luck, we finish the roof on our garden shed, so we can start to store our tools in there, emptying the green house to get ready for the growing season.

We also gave a tour of the garden to some friends who live in Tahsis part time. Nice to see a new family out there today!

Looking for Donations and a Work Party Coming up!

Hello everybody! The Tahsis Community Garden is looking for donations of your used garden tools or equipment. So if you are decluttering or spring cleaning and would like to get rid of some plastic pots, seedling trays, hand tools, or any garden stuff, please call me and I will come and pick it up whenever it’s convenient for you!

Extra space in your garage and you’d be donating to a good cause at the same time! Thank you!

P. S. There is a work party at the Tahsis Community Garden at 10:00am on Saturday to put together our new shed. If you are handy with tools, have any experience, or just want to get out in the sun and have fun helping out, we’d love to have you join us.
Thanks and see you then!

work party

Yesterday about 11 of us gathered at the garden to do a bit of sprucing up. Well, actually we said goodbye to a couple of cedar trees, not spruce! We enriched the School plot dirt, composted some weeds out of the paths, and transplanted an entire bedful of strawberry plants, donated by one of our recent "Golden Carrot Award" winners, Marta.

Despite the constant drizzle, the gardeners were cheerful, co operative, and as always, promoting a real sense of community spirit by pulling together to get the job done!

A Huge Thank you!! to everyone that bared the winter elements yesterday and worked in the garden. We got a lot accomplished! Thank you Tena for opening your home for some much needed washroom breaks and hot beverages.

Wishing you and your families a Merry Christmas and safe travels during this holiday season. Don't forget to ask Santa for some gardening supplies.

A donation to the garden

Thank you very much to Elizabeth, for generously donating some sliding glass doors to our community garden, we now have lots of glass to someday design and make a few large cold frames! And thanks to Bill, Glyn, Debbie and some local teens for helping move them out to the garden! So if anyone has a favourite blueprint for that kind of thing, just let the group know and we will figure out what other supplies we need and all work together.
