Sunday's Work Party
Lynda was kind enough to take a few pictures at the garden on Sunday. The weather was perfect, everything was tidied up and the garden is looking really good.
Thanks to all who came out to lend a hand. Now if we could have a stretch of warm, sunny weather, our veggies would be much happier.

Gardening at the Farm to School Corner
Great news! Senior students from CMESS are back at the community garden every Monday between 11 - 12. Looks like they got a lot accomplished this week, the beds are nicely cleaned up.
Speaking of seed..... FAB-Tahsis teacher Brooke has put out a request for extra seed and/or seedlings that folks are able to donate to the students for their garden plots.

'We had a fantastic turnout with the students this morning! Does anyone by chance have any spare seeds or plants that they'd be willing to donate to the Farm to School beds? Preferably things that store well or are harvested in the fall. Thank you in advance!'
TCGS president Kim Anderson further provided examples such as kale, beets, carrots, brussel sprouts, turnips, cabbage, parsnips, onion sets etc.
Donations may be left in the community garden green house, clearly labelled F2S. Please contact Kim via Facebook or by email so she can coordinate with Brooke, with sincere appreciation.

April Showers
Rain, showers, sunny breaks, showers, rain, a whip of wind, sunny breaks, liquid sunshine. Perfect Spring weather for our seeds and seedlings. I planted some dill and summer savoury today, and brought along the camera just because I was so enamoured with Juanita's bed. The headboard, the shears.
Then it was down the garden path, the solo French tulip, the daffs, more tulips so elegant, gorgeous pinks, yellows (way MORE of that to come...).
The Farm to School corner has rhubarb and the asparagus is peeping out from under the mulch.

The strawberries are tended 💕and responding.
And, the thyme! there's a healthy plant.
The yellow shrub is a Kerria japonica (Japanese Rose). The Jorcan composter is in it's testing phase, things are just starting to cook.

The strawberry bed (top centre) was recently replanted looking so good beside the garlic bed.
The bird buffet is now closed.
and finally, a little happy place in the greenhouse.

Project Squash
Not a community garden initiative, but two members are offering to lead Project Squash.
Basically, if anyone is interested in growing winter squash on their sunny lawns, we will come by, assess the site, dig an 8" hole in your lawn and plant winter squash. Your job is to water the plants over the season. Come harvest time, each grower receives a percentage of their crop, and the rest are donated to local food initiatives (eg Good Food Box and/or Community Cupboard).
If you are interested, please contact Silvie Keen or Cheryl O'Donnell. We are using a Cumberland initiative as a model, see below for details.

Cougar @ Riverside Mobile Home Park
Message from Kim:
When speaking with my sister on the phone (March 25 10:00am), a cougar ran across the road in front of her trailer while we were talking.
Please everyone be safe in the garden.

And thank you to Kim for standing for yet 'one more year' of leadership, your dedication is appreciated beyond words. And for bringing the treats. Those little danishes were so addictive...
And finally, thank you Tahsis Seniors Society for the use of your venue, and to our growing community who participated in our first ever Seedy Sunday. There were so many different seeds from which to choose, and everyone went home with something new. Cheryl brought in loads of healthy seedlings - tomatoes for all! and peppers and lemon trees and avocados and eggplants, so great to have such avid gardeners in our midst.
Happy gardening!
